Named by Paddy Gleeson, a homesick Irishman, the gently undulating terrain of the Clare Valley has long since surrendered the sounds of the ‘bullockies’ carts laden with copper ore. Today you’ll be soothed by the gentle breeze that rustles through the canopies of the regions cool climate vines and the subtle splash of a crisp, cleansing Riesling being poured to accompany a gourmet platter of FOOD FUN WINE & More!
Your enchanting day on the Riesling Trail will reveal a region of mystic and charm. Your tour leaves the urban sprawl of the city and heads north through the agricultural and pastoral lands of the States mid-north into the vine draped slopes of the Clare Valley.
Arriving in the 1840’s, migrant Jesuit Monks settled in Sevenhill and established a winery making sacramental wines for religious purposes from some of the earliest grape plantings, a tradition that has not eroded over time. At ease with both red and white grapes, the Clare Valley is highly regarded as Australia’s premier Riesling region. Spanning the length of the valley, a 27km section of disused railway provides access to the Riesling Trail and an array of Clare Valley wineries that offer crisp, fruitful wines that will not only surprise but delight the palate. The clean air environment is also popular for producing a range of farm fresh products with real flavour and character.
Visit Mintaro, where the heritage buildings are adorned with slate. The local quarry was once the producer of the world’s finest slate. Walk through the majestic splendour of the historic Martindale Hall as featured in the movie epic ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’.
Your activity filled day on the Riesling Trail draws to a close as the sun starts to cast long shadows over the distant Gulf St. Vincent, Our return drive to Adelaide will see you in the city for approximately 6pm.
